Lego Minifigure Scale Tantive IV – Day 1

Well, here is the first part of the ship. I am starting right in the middle. This is the cylindrical part of the ship between the reactor and the main hull area. It has the T-junction with the air locks where the Empire boards the ship along with the communications array. I think that this is the most challenging part of the ship as cylinders do not build easily in LegoTM.

To start easy, this is the construction of the one of the two main trusses that run the length of this section. This truss has 435 pieces in it, mostly 1×8 TechnicTM bricks and 1×8 plates. I have found that the using the 1×8 brick and plate combination is the strongest, most economical approach to construction the “chords” of the trusses. Holding it all together are 80 3L “long pins”.

This section is 108 studs long (11-1×8 and 2-1×10 Technic bricks) which represents about about a quarter of the 448 stud planned length. Here is a time-lapse video of the construction. Patience, please. This is the first video upload I have completed on a blog!
